SCOTT COUNTY
The lineage of the county begins in 1790 with the creation of St. Clair County. As the territory was settled, more counties were created: Madison in 1812, Greene in 1821, Morgan in 1823, and Scott on February 16, 1839.
Scott County is home to two districts that are on the National Register of Historic Places. The first is the Naples Archeological District. This district covers an area of over 10,000 acres and is known to have been inhabited by the "Mounds Builders". The Mounds Builders were an ancient Native American civilization who built mounds as part of their funeral practices. The second area is the Winchester Historic District. This area's significance is its architecture and engineering. It features over 270 buildings built between 1825 - 1924.
