The Western Illinois Tourism Development Office welcomes you to our great region of the State!
Western Illinois, River Country, boasts 25 counties with the Mississippi River as its western boundary and the Illinois River bordering it on the east. Many Western Illinois cities were brought forth because of the rivers. The oldest European settlement in Illinois, Creve Coeur, is on the Illinois River.
The rivers provide many varied recreational opportunities such as riverboat casinos, non-gaming riverboats, hiking and biking trails, hunting, winter roosting places of the bald eagle, and scenic drives. Western Illinois also has to its credit many historic settlements, shopping meccas featuring antique shops and specialty shops. Western Illinois is also host to many fairs and festivals with each event heralding its own specialty.
You are welcome to call or visit our office where all official Illinois information is available. Professionals to assist you in planning your visit to Western Illinois staff the area's seven, State Certified Convention and Visitor Bureaus. All Illinois Highway Tourist Information Centers offer free trip planning brochures and assistance with your travel needs. The Great River Road, which follows the Mississippi River's shoreline, includes many Western Illinois cities that provide ample opportunities to explore the rich heritage of the river.
